The government has released a terrifying safety video shows the importance of watering a Christmas tree every day.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) set up two trees in a replica living room. One tree is watered, and the other is dry.

'Safety should be part of all your decorating efforts,' said CPSC Acting Chairman Ann Marie Buerkle. 

'Make sure your live Christmas tree has plenty of water, keep lit candles away from flammable items, and use caution when standing on a ladder or a chair to hang decorations.' 

The CPSC estimates there are 14,700 holiday decorating related ER-treated injuries per year in the U.S.
