‘Wisteria Lane’ Is Back in New ‘Desperate Housewives’ Spinoff: Everything We Know About the Upcoming Series
Get ready to dive deep into the lives of Wisteria Lane residents once more as new faces appear on the block
The ladies of Wisteria Lane just might be venturing back onto your screens as a new Desperate Housewives spinoff is in the works! The new series is in development at Onyx Collective and will be inspired by the plot of the original.
The new series is currently titled Wisteria Lane, after the name of the most infamous street in television history, where things seem picture-perfect but never truly are. Attached to the show is Kerry Washington, who is set to executive producer through her company Simpson Street as well as 20th Television.
Also joining as executive producer, as well as the writer, will be Natalie Chaidez, who is best known for her work on The Flight Attendant. It is unknown whether the creator of Desperate Housewives, Marc Cherry, will be involved in this new project but it is possible for his expertise to be included.
What will ‘Wisteria Lane’ be about?
Although very little is known about the upcoming series as of publication, there is a tidbit of information about what you might be able to expect from the spinoff. The official logline states that Wisteria Lane will be a “fun, sexy, darkly comedic soap/mystery, in the vein of Desperate Housewives, set around a group of five very different friends and sometimes frenemies who all live on a picture-perfect cul-de-sac called Wisteria Lane.”
It continues, “On the surface, all the Wisteria neighbors are living the dream. Beautiful homes, gorgeous families, shiny SUVs in the driveway — but behind those white picket fences and smiling Insta posts, are secrets.”
Of course, the original five friends included stars like Felicity Huffman, Eva Longoria, Teri Hatcher, Marcia Cross and Nicollette Sheridan. It’s unknown who will take their places in the new series but on Wisteria Lane, anything is possible.
As for the current description of the show, it seems eerily similar to the original series, considering it may be a sort of reimagining of Desperate Housewives but that remains to be seen.
Fans have been begging for a reboot
It’s been nearly 13 years since Desperate Housewives came to an end, but fans are still begging creator Cherry to bring back the beloved members of Wisteria Lane. Although there are no plans for the original cast to return, never say never.
Longoria, who starred as Gabrielle Solis, said earlier this year that she would absolutely be interested in reprising her character. “I would be the first person,” she shared. “I love that, when I’m anywhere in the world, people go: ‘Gabby!’ I actually take a lot of pride in that. To me, it’s just reflective of the impact it had.”
Cherry also shared that fans have been begging for a reboot. He recently shared that “about 70,000 people” have asked him about bringing the series back. But whether Cherry joins the crew for Wisteria Lane, you know you’ll be in for a wicked ride down the most infamous street in fictional America.
