Grey's Anatomy star's 'sinister' new drama opposite The Boys fave lands release date
New action drama Countdown will be landing on Prime Video in the coming months, starring Eric Dane and Jensen Ackles
Prime Video's latest action series Countdown has finally been given a release date and it's due to land on screens very soon.
Countdown stars actor Jensen Ackles, known for appearing in The Boys, who takes on the lead role of Mark Meachum, an LAPD detective who is recruited to investigate the murder of an officer from the Department of Homeland Security.
Jensen stars opposite Grey's Anatomy favourite Eric Dane, who portrays Nathan Blythe in the series. The duo are also joined by the likes of Jessica Camacho, Violett Beane, Elliot Knight, and Uli Latukefu.
The upcoming series is created by Derek Haas and consists of 13 episodes in total.
The first three episodes will land on Prime Video on June 25, with the remaining episodes then being released on a weekly basis up until September 3, when the finale will air.
The official synopsis for Countdown reads: “When an officer with the Department of Homeland Security is murdered in broad daylight, LAPD detective Mark Meachum (Ackles), is recruited to a secret task force, alongside undercover agents from all branches of law enforcement, to investigate.
"But the hunt for the killer soon uncovers a plot far more sinister than anyone could have imagined, kicking off a race against time to save a city of millions.”
Filming for Countdown commenced in Los Angeles in late 2024, with production eventually wrapping in March 2025. First-look photos show the cast in character.
Countdown marks one of Jensen's many upcoming projects. It's been revealed that he is also due to reprise his role as Soldier Boy in Vought Rising, an upcoming prequel series for The Boys.
The show will tell the origin story of Soldier Boy and Stormfront (Aya Cash), in addition to Vought International. A release date is yet to be confirmed for the new series.
In an announcement regarding the details of Vought Rising, producers Eric Kripke and Paul Grellong said: "It's a twisted murder mystery about the origins of Vought in the 1950s, the early exploits of Soldier Boy and the diabolical manoeuvres of a Supe known to fans as Stormfront, who was then going by the name Clara Vought.
"We cannot wait to blow your minds and trouble your souls with this salacious, grisly saga drenched in blood and Compound V."
Countdown will premiere on 25 June on Prime Video. Episodes will then be released on a weekly basis.
