WASHINGTON, DC, USA, June 26, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- In a letter sent to the American president on June 26, 2018, more than 160 prominent Iranian-Americans wrote: “The decision to end the unwarranted political and economic concessions to the central banker of terrorism and the world record holder of per capita executions reflects an end to a four-decade policy of appeasing Iran’s ruling dictatorship.”

The Iranian-American academics and professionals expressed gratitude for Washington’s moral support to Iranian protestors.

They said, however, that this change of course in policy must be completed by taking additional concrete steps, including the imposition of sanctions on the regime and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to cuts its access to the international banking system, the eviction of the regime from regional countries, holding to account regime officials at international tribunals for their role in the massacre of 30,000 political prisoners in 1988, and the recognition of the main opposition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) as the democratic alternative to the ruling theocracy.

The letter pointed to multiple uprisings against the regime, starting with the December 2017 protests that quickly spread to more than 140 cities and shocked the regime, and said: “The national convention of Iranian-American communities took place in Washington, DC, on May 5, and was attended by more than 1,000 delegates from 40 states. The convention and the delegates expressed their support for the Iranian people’s uprising to establish democratic and secular rule in Iran, where recent nationwide protests confirmed that regime change does not require any foreign military intervention. The Iranian-American communities underscored the essential role of the international community in siding with the Iranian people.”

The letter adds: “A major gathering of Iranians from around the world will take place near Paris on June 30. Some 100,000 people joined with hundreds of American and European dignitaries in last year’s event. We urge leaders of all democratic countries, in particular the U.S., to express their solidarity with this gathering giving voice to the Iranian people’s aspirations for a free Iran.”

The letter by Iranian-American scholars expressed support for “the 10-point Plan for the Future of Iran put forth by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the NCRI, [which] guarantees individual and social freedoms and a government based on separation of church and state.”
